Hang on, isn’t every manufacturer trying to promote how smart their Auto mode is? And now we are telling you that it is bad for you? Let’s find out why!
“Auto” mode, as per the name suggested, it does everything for you. In other words, you can just:
– pick up the camera
– point it at the object
– press the button
– ..and done!
The camera will evaluate the scene and come up with a best setting to capture the photo. Although the Auto mode at nowadays camera are pretty decent, this also mean that the price of the camera determines your picture quality – if you stick with Auto mode.
So, what happen if you cannot afford the best and the latest camera? Sorry – you cannot take good picture.
WRONG!
Photography is an art, which involves human! A good photographer should be able to take stunning pictures on any camera, and one of the reason is: they do not use Auto mode! (well, unless they are given a camera that only has Auto mode)
In other words, they are in control of how they want the picture to look like. They can adjust the aperture to achieve different Depth of View, or adjust the shutter speed to freeze a moving object, changing ISO to suit the environment and even using different focusing system to get a better image.
Take a look at your camera, chance are on the main dial you will find the following: P, A, S, M (or P, Tv, Av, M). These are the modes that a good photographer should use….and sorry, what are these?
We will discuss in detail very shortly hopefully with some image explanation
Oh and maybe, I should change the subject to “Auto mode is NOT GOOD ENOUGH for you!”
